Keep yourselves from idols!

Prayer Power (Thurs, Nov 3, 2011)

REST: I went to bed at 9:15 pm after watching Survivor. I listened to my WWAB starting with Luke 7 and fell asleep quickly. I woke up at 4:25 am to use the bathroom and came back to bed. Maui got me up at 4:45 am.

ABIDE: After feeding Maui and letting her outside briefly, I took communion and then went to my Sacred Place for my Sacred Time. I stopped and sat on the basement stairs to read the Ten Commandments on the large wall poster. Three of the first four commandments stood out for me:

Ex 20:3 “You shall have no other gods before Me.”
Ex 20:4 “You shall not make for yourself a carved image.”
Ex 20:8 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.”

Then I read the Introduction to 1 John and then 1 John 1-5 (all) in my FCA (NIV) Bible. These scriptures stood out for me:

1 John 1:5b – This is the message which we have heard from Him and declare to you, that God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.
1 John 1:9 – If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 2:3 – Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments.
1 John 2:15 – Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
1 John 2:22 – Who is a liar but he who denies that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist who denies the Father and the Son.
1 John 3:6 – Whoever abides in Him does not sin. Whoever sins has neither seen Him nor known Him.
1 John 3:9 – Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.
1 John 3:16 – By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
1 John 3:17-18 – But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him? My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.
1 John 4:1-3 – Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world.
1 John 4:7 – Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.
1 John 4:16b – And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.
1 John 4:18 – There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.
1 John 5:1 – Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves Him who begot also loves him who is begotten of Him.
1 John 5:7 – For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one.
1 John 5:11-12 – And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.
1 John 5:13-15 – These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God. Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.
1 John 5:21 – Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.

Jesus, thank You for another good night’s sleep in a warm, comfortable bed. Thank You for our cars and the roof over our heads. Thank You for the ability to read and a Bible to read. Thank You for my craving for pure spiritual milk. I commit this day to You. Help me to focus on what’s most important to You and Your kingdom. Help me to intentionally tune into you every 15-30 minutes. I desperately want You to be the Navigator for my Life.

Joseph, thank you for spending this special time with Me. Thank You for quieting your mind, fixing your eyes on Me, tuning to spontaneity, and journaling. Every time you do those 4 things, be assured you will hear from Me. THE KEY to great success and much fruitfulness is simple – staying connected to the Vine – allowing Me to be the Navigator for your life. Look no further. Just practice what you know. Leave the results in My hands.

My weekly Breakthrough Life Coaching call was outstanding. Robbie’s question about when I go to bed really hit a nerve after I realized I have not been recording my REST about 30% of the time. After our conversation, I was prompted to go through my journal and record how much rest I had each day in October and November. I realize that monitoring my rest closely is something that is very important for me to track on a monthly basis.
