1. Keeping a Journal- One of the Three Treasures to Leave Behind by Jim Rohn
(excerpted from his How to Use a Journal audio CD)

If you’re serious about becoming a wealthy, powerful, sophisticated, healthy, influential, cultured and unique individual, keep a journal. Don’t trust your memory. When you listen to something valuable, write it down. When you come across something important, write it down.

I used to take notes on pieces of paper and torn-off corners and backs of old envelopes. I wrote ideas on restaurant placemats. On long sheets, narrow sheets and little sheets and pieces of paper thrown in a drawer. Then I found out that the best way to organize those ideas is to keep a journal. I’ve been keeping these journals since the age of 25. The discipline makes up a valuable part of my learning, and the journals are a valuable part of my library.

I am a buyer of blank books. Kids find it interesting that I would buy a blank book. They say, “Twenty-six dollars for a blank book! Why would you pay that?” The reason I pay 26 dollars is to challenge myself to find something worth 26 dollars to put in there. All my journals are private, but if you ever got a hold of one of them, you wouldn’t have to look very far to discover it is worth more than 26 dollars.

I must admit, if you got a glimpse of my journals, you’d have to say that I am a serious student. I’m not just committed to my craft; I’m committed to life, committed to learning new concepts and skills. I want to see what I can do with seed, soil, sunshine and rain to turn them into the building blocks of a productive life.

Keeping a journal is so important. I call it one of the three treasures to leave behind for the next generation. In fact, future generations will find these three treasures far more valuable than your furniture.

The first treasure is your pictures. Take a lot of pictures. Don’t be lazy in capturing the event. How long does it take to capture the event? A fraction of a second. How long does it take to miss the event? A fraction of a second. So don’t miss the pictures. When you’re gone, they’ll keep the memories alive.

The second treasure is your library. This is the library that taught you, that instructed you, that helped you defend your ideals. It helped you develop a philosophy. It helped you become wealthy, powerful, healthy, sophisticated and unique. It may have helped you conquer some disease. It may have helped you conquer poverty. It may have caused you to walk away from the ghetto. Your library- the books that instructed you, fed your mind and fed your soul- is one of the greatest gifts you can leave behind.

The third treasure is your journals: the ideas that you picked up, the information that you meticulously gathered. But of the three, journal writing is one of the greatest indications that you’re a serious student. Taking pictures, that is pretty easy. Buying a book at a bookstore, that’s pretty easy. It is a little more challenging to be a student of your own life, your own future, your own destiny. Take the time to keep notes and to keep a journal. You’ll be so glad you did. What a treasure to leave behind when you go. What a treasure to enjoy today!

Do you have a dream, a vision of the life you wish to live?
How specific is that dream?
How clear is that vision?

Your fears can actually lead you to success. Fear is an intense emotion. But that doesn’t mean it has to control you, or even stop you. Fear can prepare you and push you forward just as strongly as it can hold you back. Fear heightens your awareness and increases your physical strength. Fear brings your mind to sharp focus. With all that going for you, does it make sense to just run and hide? Of course not. Fear gets you in shape to take action!

Are you waiting for things to get better before moving ahead? If you’re serious about success, you need to start taking action today. If you’re waiting for things to be perfect, you’ll wait forever and nothing will ever get done.

The way to achieve is to bloom where you’re planted, to do what you can, where you are, with what you have. It’s easy to think up excuses for not taking action. “If only I had more hours in the day. If only I had a better job. If only I could meet the right person.” But excuses won’t bring you anything of value. You’ve got to change your “if only” into an “I will.” “I will make better use of my time. I will work on improving my career. I will create and nurture my relationships.”

Take a chance. Have faith in yourself. Your circumstances will improve when you make the effort to improve them. Start where you are right now. You have everything it takes to reach for whatever you desire. Stop wishing. Use your time, your energy, your thoughts and efforts to make it happen! You’ll be glad you did!

UNCOMMON Journaling is the key

There is no right or wrong method for journaling. As mentioned previously, journaling needs to be individualized to uniquely suit who you are and your writing and life styles. Over time, your journaling will likely evolve as you grow.

However, as one of the most experienced journalers in the world anointed and appointed by God to coach others to journal to hear His voice, I have discovered and used three simple and powerful journaling methods that I will share here:

• Yesterday … and Prayer Power
• PRESS method
• ACTS

One of the simplest and most effective methods for journaling is what I call “Yesterday … Prayer Power.”

No matter what method you choose to use, you can journal either in a notebook or on your computer (online). I highly recommend the latter for a multitude of reasons which you will read about in a later chapter.

Regardless of your journaling method, it’s important to frequently share your God stories – letting others know what Jesus is doing in your life. There are lots of “good” people in this world, but good doesn’t get you into heaven – Jesus does. Spiritually-lost people in your sphere of influence are literally dying for you to introduce them to Jesus.

Rev. Mark Jarvis, who was the one who led me to a personal relationship with Jesus, says his life purpose is to know God make Him known. I believe that is something that Jesus wants every one of his disciples to do – to know Him and make Him known.

People frequently talk about their best friends. Jesus is my best friend. What about you? Is Jesus your best friend? If so, are you talking about Him to those you cross paths with? If not, what can you do to change that?

I love the story of the Samaritan woman at the well. She hadn’t read the Bible. She hadn’t done a lot of praying but she had met the living and true God. And after meeting Jesus, she went and told people she know about Jesus and invited them to meet Jesus too.

After observing my own behaviors and those closest to me, I feel confident saying you are most likely to succeed in establishing journaling as a firm habit when you do your journaling early in your morning.

If you’re like me and most other people, your days often spiral out-of-control as they go along, seeming to get more and more hectic. New and unexpected things pop up to distract you. I know I’m definitely most productive in the first few hours of the morning. When I save an activity for the evening, it’s easy for that to get bumped out of my schedule by other pressing matters. What you do first thing in the morning sets the tone for the rest of your day.

If you think you’re “not a morning person,” my advice to you is “Get over it.” God is a morning God. God tells us to give him our first fruit, not our left overs. When you start your day poorly or sluggish, what kind of results do you expect? If you fail to receive your guidance or instructions from the LORD during abiding time early in the day, who are you really living that day for?

In his book “Secrets Of The Vine,” Bruce Wilkinson writes, “Set apart the kind of time that will build relationship. Some Christians I know try to have their meaningful personal times with God just before bed, but I have yet to find a respected spiritual leader throughout history who had devotions at night. Unless you get up early, you’re unlikely to break through to a deeper relationship with God. Set aside a significant time and a private place where you can read and write comfortably, think, study, talk to God out loud, and weep if you need to. In abiding, what happens on the surface doesn’t count; what’s happening inside does.”

My recommendation is to start each day by going to “your secret place,” kneel down, and pray for a few minutes. My personal habit is to say the “Lord’s Prayer” several times along with a few other short prayers. Then I read the Bible or start listening to it using iTunes. I nearly always start journaling within the first 30-60 minutes.

Prayer Power
Heavenly Father, thank You for my steady habit of journaling early in the morning. Thank You for all the fruit that results from that. Speak to the hearts of those who read or listen to this message as to when you want each of them to journal. Help them to overcome obstacles that get in the way of a closer walk with You. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

1) You Will Develop a More Intimate Relationship With our Triune God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit! I’m sure you have written a love letter back when you were young, or wrote a sympathetic poem, both males and females. There is something about clearly putting down your feelings on paper that makes them more concrete and understandable/manageable by you. The same is true with your lifelong relationship with God. When you take time out to just sit down and focus on the ‘Great I AM’, and the reality of who He is to you expands your comprehensiveness. Do this on a regular basis, and you will be amazed at how much deeper and more real your understanding and your connection to the Lord will be.

2) It Will Revolutionize Your Faith! When you are going through a trial, it is great to have the living Word of God (Bible) there by your side. You can meditate on the countless times God came through for His people in the past. However, having your own book of answered prayers from the Lord in addition with your Bible can be even much better and truly revealing. Your prayer journal will be a ready reminder of the actual times God’s faithfulness was to you when you needed it most.

3) It Makes God’s Word Real (Living/Breathing)! Using a prayer journal is an excellent means of Bible Study and daily devotion. When you journal on the things God reveals to you personally, through the studying of His Word, the letters no longer just sit on the pages. It allows Him to reveal what they mean for you exactly where you are at that time.

4) You’ll Be More Focused During Your Prayer/Meditation Time! Have you ever been praying and the next thing you know, you’re thinking about today’s ‘To Do List’ or something else totally off topic? Writing down your prayers and intentions keeps you focused where it needs to be – on spending time with your Heavenly Father and what He wants for you to know for that moment.

5) You’ll Create A Lasting Legacy of Faith! Over time, your prayer journal will develop into a beautiful love story between you and the Lord. It will hold all of the truths that He reveals to your heart throughout the years of your daily journey with Him, and His great provision for your family through the years. A lasting legacy of faith and your ‘daily walk with the Lord’ – Wouldn’t that be something wonderful to pass on to future generations?

Would it be good for you to know where a child of God thoughts and feelings were on a certain but common issue? Would it help to know that another child of God really struggled with ‘this’ and ‘that’ and how God helped move them pass the confusion and struggle into ‘His light of clarity’? You bet it would be helpful and that is what you can leave for your loved ones. Remember it truly helps us humans to know that we aren’t the only one who struggles with a certain issue(s). We don’t like to be too very different than another and that is what you can leave for and to help your future loved ones.

Today was another historical day of taking a stand for the WFJ GLOBAL MOVEMENT. Team destiny hosted their final of three WFJ (Words From Jesus) webinars in December 2009 called “The Miracle of Christmas.”

Dr. Joseph Peck served as the global connector and host of this webinar. The guest panelists were: Deb Smith, Richard Mayhan, Bertha Hinson, and me, Abigail Slocum. Clearly the Holy Spirit took control of the webinar before it ever started and never let go!

He began by waking me up at 3:22 AM to give me this prophetic word – WFJ: THE MIRACLE OF CHRISTMAS IS CHRIST! It was His way of orchestrating the whole focus for the discussion. These are the questions we covered:

WFJ: THE MIRACLE OF CHRISTMAS IS CHRIST!

Take the tour of the Word and be free in Christ. CHRISTMAS IS A SEASON FOR MIRACLES BUT EVERY DAY IS A MIRACLE IN CHRIST! TO BE IN CHRIST IS THE GREATEST MIRACLE OF ALL.

SALVATION IS THE GREATEST MIRACLE OF ALL. It is God�s free gift to all mankind. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him shall be saved (have eternal life).(John 3:16).

What is so miraculous is that SALVATION IS THE “GREAT EXCHANGE!” MAN GIVES GOD HIS IMPERFECT, BROKEN, SINFUL LIFE IN EXCHANGE FOR A PERFECT (COMPLETE) LIFE IN CHRIST. JESUS GIVES HIS ALL FOR OUR ALL!

When you receive Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, the LIGHT OF THE WORLD – THE CANDLE OF MAN, comes into your heart to show you the most excellent way of all to live. IT IS THE WAY OF LOVE BECAUSE GOD IS LOVE.

In this “GREAT EXCHANGE,” your old sinful man dies and the new man comes alive in Christ. CHRIST LIVES THROUGH YOU to live the perfect will of God which is righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. (Romans 14:17).

Unity of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is your inheritance as a born again child of God. IT IS A LIFE OF VICTORY AND TOTAL PROVISION. To be one with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is to be free from every bondage of sin and to be free to experience the fullness and abundance of life in Christ Jesus. JESUS IS THE DOOR TO FREEDOM AND TOTAL FULFILLMENT.

Jesus� arms are open wide and ALL THAT BELONGS TO THE FATHER OF LIGHTS IS YOURS WHEN YOU SAY “YES” TO JESUS who is the express image and likeness of God, and His Kingdom of Love becomes yours!

IT IS A SUPERNATURAL GIFT OF DIVINE INFUSION AND PROPORTION AND IS THE GREATEST MIRACLE OF ALL! Become one with the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. ALLOW THE PRINCE OF PEACE TO RULE IN YOUR HEART FOREVERMORE, for God set eternity in the heart of man. He loves YOU so much and nothing will ever separate YOU from His love.

It is greater than anything you ever wanted for Christmas for it is the desire of your heart. RECEIVE GOD�S GIFT AND SPEND THE REST OF YOUR NATURAL LIFE AND ETERNITY UNWRAPPING JESUS, GOD�S GIFT OF HIMSELF WHO IS PERFECT LOVE. THERE IS NO END TO LOVE. REJOICE AND BE AT PEACE. IMMANUEL HAS COME!

RECEIVE ALL OF THE GREATEST MIRACLE WHO EVER WAS OR IS TO COME! Let Christ have free reign in your heart and become His walking talking miracle and witness to all mankind. Your light has come. BE GLORIFIED IN HIS ETERNAL PRESENCE.

Prayer Power

It was a debt I could not repay and it was a debt Jesus did not owe. Thank You, Jesus. I accept your perfect gift and sacrifice. Come into my heart and be my Lord and Savior.
